General Package Information
Double Diamond Equestrian Center will provide client with access to weekly riding lessons, summer camps, 2 barn schooling shows, students work program, and a video library for instruction outside of the arena. Depending on the age group and time of day, the riding lessons will either be a private, a semi-private, or a class. Our Riding School will be closed some weeks of the year to give the lesson horses a break, to run camps or clinics, and for holidays. The weeks that are off will be communicated via email and available on our website.
Riders will be automatically grouped together with riders of similar ability and level. This is paramount to our barn culture and philosophy of creating a community that encourages camaraderie, friendship and support. We feel this leads to higher quality riding lessons.
Students must be on time for each lesson! If a student is 5 or more minutes late for group class, and/or 10 minutes late or more for privates, they will be considered absent and forfeit instruction for that day, no exceptions.
RIDER ATTIRE AND FOOTWEAR:
Client must be wearing proper riding attire- helmets, boots with riding heels, jeans or breeches. Extremely loose or baggy clothing is not allowed. Students are also not permitted to wear hats that may fly off while riding, dangling jewelry or rings that may impede the use of reins, or hoods that may impede visibility. All jackets must be zipped.
• All students must have their hair secured back and away from their faces. Long hair should be in a low ponytail that does not interfere with wearing a helmet.
• Students will also not be allowed to chew gum while working with horses on the ground or while riding.
• If any student is not dressed appropriately they will not be able to participate in the class.
Client must be coachable, positive, and have a good attitude!
WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS: All riders must be under 165 pounds and have a BMI of 25 or less. (No exceptions) Horses can only carry 15-20% of their body weight.
HELMET POLICY:
• Helmets are required to be worn by every student under the age of 18 during all mounted activities. Equestrian helmets made to the current ASTM F1163 standard and certified by the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) are considered to offer the best possible head protection for horseback riding activities. Students are required to purchase their own helmet.
Monthly tuition is still due in full even when student misses their lessons. In the event that the weather prevents riding- unmounted horsemanship lessons will be substituted. In the event that weather prevents the barn from being open- video analysis of your riding will be done via zoom at your regular riding time. The best way to get the most value out of the program is to make it a priority and a commitment not to miss your dedicated lesson time(s).
Client agrees to communicate all scheduling changes or any other concerns about the program by email to doublediamondec@gmail.com.

Into to Horses: Beginner level- For the true beginner. In these lessons each student will learn how to halter, lead, groom and tack a horse, knot tying and safety awareness. While mounted, they will learn arena safety and etiquette, how to walk independently in an arena with others and steer a horse through obstacles. Balance is a crucial component learned at this stage.
(All new students are required to start at this level regardless of previous experience.)
Horsemanship 101: Novice level -Beyond the true beginner skills. These lessons advance the skills such as stirrup and girth adjustments, balance, steering/control, coordination, problem solving and organization. Skills at the trot such as 2-point position, circles, serpentine and figure 8's become a focus. A student may spend as many sessions as necessary at this level to become competent before going on to the intermediate level.
Equitation 101: Intermediate level - Has mastered the beginner/intermediate skills. At this level, students will be increasing speed while incorporating skills such as bending exercises for the horse, lateral movements, different lengths of stride and pace, and how to get the horse "on the bit". This will be coordinated with learning the basics of jumping, speed events or western reining.
Competitive: Advanced level - Our advanced level is for refinement and polish in jumping, speed events and western reining. This course will be a collaboration between the rider and the instructor to determine the specific content.
All lessons have a set curriculum. Riders will need to show proficiency in order to advance to the next level. Due to the importance of understanding and practicing the basics, many individuals may need to repeat a level until they are comfortable with the skills they have acquired.
