We offer both English and western horseback riding lessons for ages 4 to adult.
We have programs for the beginner as well as the advanced equestrian student. We teach our students to ride properly.
Teaching good horsemanship, equitation, confidence, and safety are significant aspects of the program.
Our Ride With A Purpose program is our unique method of tracking progress in students as they develop into knowledgeable, safe, and well-rounded equestrians.
Students work to master specific skills in each of the levels and receive recognition for completion when they are able to consistently demonstrate each of the skills to their instructor.
In many cases, achievement of one level is a prerequisite for learning more advanced skills such as jumping or speed events.
These levels are divided into three branches to reflect the main areas of study within our riding school.
The Equine Science Levels build the comprehensive knowledge and practical know-how needed to work with and care for horses safely and successfully—turning horse lovers into informed caretakers. The program blends clear theory with hands-on practice and regular knowledge checks at every step, with equine welfare at the center.Students are assessed across six core areas:
The Horsemanship Levels concentrate on growing a rider’s in-saddle skills while honoring the whole horse. Horsemanship means understanding how horses think and feel, communicating with clear aids and timing, and putting welfare first. As riders progress, they develop balance, confidence, arena etiquette, and safety habits, and learn how to plan training and conditioning so both horse and rider become well-rounded athletes—English or Western.
The Training Levels introduce training and groundwork skills.
This allows students to maintain training in a wide variety of situations while increasing communication and connection with the horse.A step-by-step program that teaches safe, kind groundwork so your horse understands you better—and those same cues work when you ride.

The program blends clear theory with hands-on practice and regular knowledge checks at every step, with equine welfare at the center.Students are assessed across six core areas:
- General equine science — anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and behavior
- Equine biomechanics — how the horse moves; gait mechanics, symmetry, balance, conditioning, and the effects of tack and rider on movement
- Equipment (tack) — selection, fit, safe use, and maintenance
- Veterinary fundamentals — first aid, wellness monitoring, and when to call the vet
- Stable management — daily care, conditioning plans, sanitation, and biosecurity
- Horse judging — conformation and movement evaluation, breed/discipline standards, common faults, and developing clear oral reasons.

- Communication & feel — independent seat, quiet leg, soft hands; timing of aids, leads/diagonals, smooth transitions, rhythm, and straightness.
- Horse biomechanics basics — how posture, balance, and rider position affect movement; spotting relaxation vs. tension; simple ways to improve the gaits.
- Schooling skills — patterns, circles/figures, poles and intro lateral work (e.g., leg-yield/haunch control), plus obstacle/trail elements for confidence.
- Safety & etiquette — passing rules, spacing, calling lines, mounting-area flow; helmet/boot norms; risk awareness and ride-within-limits judgment.
- Welfare & tack fit — checking comfort, soundness, soreness; correct saddle/bridle fit; appropriate bitting and equipment choices.
- Conditioning plans — warm-up/cool-down, gradual workload increases, rest days, and simple strength/fitness routines for horse and rider.
- Readiness & responsibility — setting goals, keeping simple ride logs, and prepping for lessons, clinics, or fun shows without pressure.

- Lead & stop politely (start, stop, back, stand).
- Move body parts on light cues (hindquarters/forehand yield).
- Longe with voice cues (walk–trot–canter, change direction calmly).
- Confidence over obstacles (poles, cones, bridge/tarp/gate).
- Everyday handling (pick up feet, fly spray, blanketing, trailer basics).
- Translate to the saddle (mounting-block manners, soft turns, smooth go/stop).

Why Choose Double Diamond?
- Level-Based Program for Progress: Every rider begins with foundational horsemanship and riding skills and advances through levels only after demonstrating true mastery. This ensures that students develop strong, lasting skills at their own pace.
- Comprehensive Tuition Model: Our monthly tuition includes not only riding lessons, but also access to horsemanship classes, clinics, barn schooling shows, a student work program, and a video library — all designed to enrich the riding experience beyond the arena.
- Consistency & Commitment: We believe progress comes from dedication. Our program requires a three-month minimum commitment, helping riders stay engaged and achieve meaningful results.
- Safe, Supportive Environment: Safety is our top priority. From clear weight and fitness guidelines to helmet and attire requirements, every policy is designed to protect both horse and rider.
- Expert Instruction: Our instructors meet each student where they are — as teachers, coaches, or mentors — guiding riders toward confidence, resilience, and skill both in and out of the saddle.
- Community Spirit: Riders are grouped with others of similar level and ability, fostering camaraderie, encouragement, and a positive barn culture.
- Opportunities to Shine: From our summer clinics and student work program to our annual horse show each May, students have many chances to apply their skills, celebrate their progress, and be part of the Double Diamond family.
